Now we are into Autumn it is time to think about mudguards and lights for your bike. It is also time to think about clothing for colder days and darker nights. We have Proviz Cyclists reflective Gilets, Jackets and some items of runners clothing in stock or to order. Also, gloves to keep Jack Frost away.
Recently heading home in the evening after work looking forward to supper from the Abbey Friar, it was about 8.30 and already dark, so I had my lights on. As I reached the Half Moon I could see a van heading towards me on the wrong side due to parked vehicles, I realised the driver had no intention of stopping, so took avoiding action onto the pavement and ended up landing on my head and shoulder after a spectacular dismount. The pub customers outside had a grandstand view and might have given me points for my aerial somersault, but not for my landing. Thanks to the folks from the pub who helped me up, I was also glad I was wearing a helmet as I felt my head banging on the ground. My old Lefty bike was unscathed so I managed to pedal on and collect my supper, but my old Righty shoulder has torn ligaments. I have now bought myself a Proviz Gilet so there will be no excuse for not seeing me at night in future. The Proviz range is not just for cyclists but is good for runners and dog walkers or anyone who wants to be visible at night. Microscopic beads in the material reflect lights from cars.
